Lantern Festival!

We were all missing Asia a little bit, so when I saw the opportunity to attend a Lantern Festival near our home here in Arizona, I was all-in! Luckily, Todd and the kids were too!

It was the end of April, but this is AZ,
so it was was sunny and warm.

Which made getting a Hawaiian Ice treat a great idea!
I didn't realize how big it would be, but no I didn't share.

It was amazing how many people were there!
They had live music and lots of food to purchase.

Krystin was in a red phase that evening.  so cute.

Krystin opted out of Shaved Ice, and opted into a crepe'!

I might have had to get a crepe' too...
They were so good.
Why do I love sugar so much?

Kayla, me, and Logan (trying to hide from the sun!)...

They had spots set up in strange locations.
looks like  a path, but really a spot.  Had a fire pit too!

 Logan styling' his new kerchief

We were to decorate our lanterns with wishes, dreams or pictures.

The kids put a lot of thought into theirs! it was really cute.

As the sun began to set, they lit the fire pits.

and we did made Smore's!

We were a little worried that we would not be able to launch our lanterns, as the fire officials were worried about the wind factor and our lanterns that literally have a flame in them catching the wilds of AZ on fire.

Luckily, an hour and half after the original launch time - we were given the OK!

It was nothing less than magical to see the lanterns take flight and fill the sky!

If you ever have the chance to participate in a Lantern Festival, I highly recommend it....

RV shopping!

Todd and I spent over a year, plotting, researching, contemplating and so forth over getting an RV.  What type should we get? What Brand?  Motorized?  Travel Trailer? Fifth wheel?  How much did we want to spend?  Would we even like  it?   Lots of things to think about, discuss and research.

We decided before we purchased one, we should rent one and make sure this RV thing was what we wanted.  We rented an RV in December and took the kids adventuring for a week (I will blog about that at some point) and decided we did in fact want one!

After much to do, we decided on a Grand Design, but weren't sure on the model, initially.  We checked out many different models, and while we really loved the fifth wheels for their added space; that space came at a higher price tag and was much heavier.  Ultimately, we decided on a Grand Design Imagine Model 2600RB travel trailer.  We loved that there was still enough room to sleep 5 (us and the kids if they came) and the bathroom was in the rear, which meant a larger bathroom space (away from the bedroom).

Initially, we also chose this model, due to the fact that our Jeep Grand Cherokee could tow it. However, we ended up deciding that we prefer something with a greater towing capacity to do the job and traded in our other Jeep for a Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Truck (not a diesel).  A diesel was not necessary, as our RV's dry weight was about 1/2 the Ram's towing capacity, so we could save 10k there.

Our Ram Truck.
We call him, "Ray"....

Picking up our Travel Trailer.
Todd named her 'Etta'.
Ready for the open road and some Blues.

After we were shown how to set up the tow hitch (this took quite some time for some reason),
and presumably everything we need to know about Etta,
we were on our way!
Ready for adventure.
